Addresses that belong to a hosting company, on hardware built for throughput. They are the quickest and least expensive proxies on the market, and any target that looks up the network behind an IP can tell exactly what it is talking to. We do not sell them yet.

A datacenter proxy is an IP address that belongs to a hosting company rather than to a consumer internet provider. It lives in a data centre, it is fast, it is the cheapest address you can buy, and the public registry says exactly what it is. That last part is the whole story. Any site that cares who is connecting can look up the owner of an address in seconds, and a hosting range is trivially identified and frequently refused outright. For work where nobody is checking, that costs you nothing and a datacenter address is the correct cheap answer: internal testing, your own infrastructure, public data served to anyone who asks. For work where an empty response is indistinguishable from a real one, it costs you the whole run. ProxyJam does not sell datacenter proxies today. The addresses we do sell are registered to named consumer carriers, 22 of them in the United States.
Nothing here is hidden or subtle. The economics and the weakness both follow from one fact about how the address is registered.

A partner or an internal service that admits a named address does not care where that address lives. It cares that the address does not change, and a dedicated datacenter block is the cheapest way to promise that.

It is an IP address that belongs to a hosting company rather than to a home or mobile subscriber, served from that company's own network and hardware. You rent the address for a period, it does not move, and requests leaving through it reach the target at server speed. Everything good and everything limiting about the category follows from the ownership: the record naming the hosting company is public and cannot be changed by the person renting the address.
Because nothing in the supply chain is scarce or awkward. The provider already owns the addresses, already owns the racks, already pays for the transit, and adding one more address to a block costs almost nothing. Consumer addresses have to be sourced one household at a time, and that difference is what you see on the invoice.
A website that checks will know it is a hosting network, which for most consumer-facing sites amounts to the same conclusion. The lookup is trivial: read which network announced the address, compare it against a published list of hosting providers, done. Nobody needs a clever detection system for this, which is why claims that a particular datacenter range is undetectable do not survive contact with a real target.
Whether anyone else is using the address at the same time. Shared is cheaper and you inherit whatever reputation your neighbours have already built on that address, which you cannot see and cannot undo. Dedicated costs more and the only history on the address is yours. For anything where a block would cost you real time, the difference is not a luxury.
When the target does not care who is asking, or already knows. Testing your own systems, reaching an API that authenticates with a key, moving data between services you control, holding a fixed egress address for a firewall rule. In all of those the network registration is irrelevant and you would be paying a large premium for nothing by buying anything else.

Retail, streaming, social platforms, ticketing, advertising — all of them treat hosting ranges differently from household ones, and no amount of care in how you send the request changes what the registry says about the address it came from.
