Buying retail from a wholesaler's name

What does a carrier-facing registrant mean?

Zayo's buyers are other networks and large companies leasing dark fibre or wavelengths. An IP filed under that name reads as infrastructure, which suits checks that ask for a telecom registrant rather than a hosting brand.

Is Zayo wrong for a household look?

If your target rewards IPs that resemble a family's cable or fibre line, a wholesaler is the wrong signal. Zayo describes its product as bandwidth for the world's companies, and the customers it lists are networks and enterprises rather than households. Better to know that before you pay.

Why do older labels show in archives?

PeeringDB keeps AboveNet and MFNX as other names for AS6461. MFNX recalls Metromedia Fiber Network, AboveNet's name until 2003, so older routing archives can show those labels against the number Zayo announces today.

Why might the registrant not say Zayo?

Zayo has grown by purchase: AboveNet in 2012, and Crown Castle's fiber solutions business, whose sale to a Zayo entity closed on 1 May 2026. So check the registrant field your target actually reads instead of assuming it prints Zayo.

Questions about Zayo IPs

What does Zayo actually sell?

Zayo sells communications infrastructure: dark fibre, wavelength services, dedicated internet access, Ethernet and cloud connectivity, sold to carriers, hyperscalers, content providers, data centres and large enterprises. That wholesale trade is the business behind the name on this row.

What is AboveNet, and why does it appear?

AboveNet is a fibre network company from White Plains, New York, called Metromedia Fiber Network until 2003. Zayo completed its purchase on 2 July 2012 for about $2.2 billion, and PeeringDB still lists AboveNet as another name for AS6461.

Is Zayo a public company?

No: Zayo has not been a public company since 9 March 2020, when its acquisition by affiliates of Digital Colony Partners and the EQT Infrastructure IV fund closed and its shares left the New York Stock Exchange.

Why does the ARIN record say Denver?

The ARIN record for Zayo says Denver because the registration, held in the name Zayo Bandwidth, gives a Wynkoop Street address in Denver, Colorado. A registry address belongs to the record's holder; it says nothing about the location of an individual IP.

Where do you list Zayo?

ProxyJam lists Zayo here: New York City. The list records where our catalogue files the row, not where a geolocation service will place the IP.

Does choosing Zayo fix the city of my IP?

No: choosing Zayo does not fix the city of your IP. Zayo is the decision you make, and the decision ends with the carrier; the IP is issued from Zayo's pool, and the city a lookup reports for it is not something we promise.

What does one IP cost?

A Zayo ISP proxy from ProxyJam costs $5.38 per month at the first step of the ladder, the same opening price as any other US carrier in our catalogue.
